In 1978, the Qiaojia County Government prepared to build the "Qiaoshan Forest Management Station" in Yaoshan.

In 1980, the "Yaoshan Forest Police Station" was established.

On April 5, 1984, the Yunnan Provincial Government approved the establishment of Yaoshan Provincial Nature Reserve (Yunzhenghan [1984] Document No. 36), with a designated area of ​​10,215 hectares, and was established in Yaoshan Town Yaoshan Nature Reserve Management Office.

After 1990, due to the discovery of the Qiaojia five-needled pine community in Yangjiawan in Qiao County (recognized as a Class I key protected wild plant by the country in 1999), and the discovery of the national Level II key wild plant - Panzhihua cycad community, the scope of the protected area has been expanded.

In 2003, a scientific investigation of the nature reserve was conducted, and the boundaries of the nature reserve were officially determined, and the area was expanded to 20,141 hectares.

In 2005, with the approval of the State Council, Yaoshan was officially listed as a national nature reserve (Guobanfa [2005] No. 40), covering an area of ​​20,141 hectares. Yaoshan Nature Reserve Management Office was also upgraded to a management bureau.

In November 2005, the Qiaoxian Forestry Bureau and the Reserve Management Bureau commissioned the Yunnan Provincial Forestry Survey, Planning and Design Institute to formulate the "Yunnan Yaoshan National Nature Reserve Master Plan", which passed expert review and was submitted.

In February 2006, Qiaoxian Forestry Bureau and Conservation Management Bureau commissioned the Provincial Forestry Survey, Planning and Design Institute to carry out a "feasibility study on protected area construction projects". The "Feasibility Study Report" was reviewed by experts and published with the cloud Document No. 33 of Lin Jicai [2006] was submitted to the State Forestry Administration.

In June 2006, the State Forestry Administration issued the Forestry Plan [2006] No. 159 "Reply of the State Forestry Administration on the Feasibility Study Report on the Protected Area Infrastructure Project" to clarify the main construction content of the project. and investment approval.

In March 2007, the city and Qiao County editorial boards approved the establishment of the Yunnan Yaoshan National Nature Reserve Administration, which is a deputy director-level public management institution managed by the Qiaojia County People's Government and is subject to business operations.
