my country’s diplomatic achievements since the founding of the People’s Republic of China
(1) ): Diplomacy in the early days of New China
1. Independent policy of peaceful diplomacy: After the Second World War, the confrontation and fierce struggle between the socialist camp headed by the Soviet Union and the capitalist camp headed by the United States, It has become the most prominent feature of international relations. New China pursues an independent foreign policy, which Mao Zedong vividly summarized as "starting from scratch", "cleaning the house before treating guests" and "leaning to one side".
2. Proposition of the Five Principles of Peaceful Security Service: When New China was just founded, the United States and some capitalist countries adopted political non-recognition, economic blockade and embargo, and military encirclement and threats against China. policy in an attempt to strangle New China in the cradle. However, in the first year after the founding of the People's Republic of China, China established diplomatic relations with 17 countries. In order to develop friendly relations with neighboring countries and emerging independent national countries, in December 1953, when Zhou Enlai met with the Indian delegation, he proposed the Five Principles of Peaceful Departure for the first time.
In 1954, Zhou Enlai visited India and Myanmar and issued a joint statement with the prime ministers of the two countries, agreeing to use the Five Principles of Peaceful Decentralization as the basic principle guiding China-India and China-Myanmar relations. The Five Principles of Peaceful Security have become the basic norms for solving problems between countries.
3. World diplomatic arena: After the armistice of the Korean War in 1953, the U.S. fleet continued to occupy the Taiwan Strait, interfered in China's internal affairs, and attempted to threaten China militarily from the Indochina region. In order to peacefully resolve the Korean and Indochina issues, the Geneva Conference was held in 1954. This was the first important international conference that New China participated in as one of the five major powers in the world. The active role of the Chinese delegation at the conference has enhanced the international reputation of New China.
In 1955, the Bandung Conference was held, at which issues of common concern such as safeguarding peace, striving for national independence, and developing the national economy were discussed. Faced with the imperialist conspiracy to sabotage the conference, as well as the conflicts and differences among participating countries, especially the misunderstandings and misgivings of some countries about New China, Zhou Enlai clearly proposed the policy of "seeking common ground while reserving differences" to promote the conference to be a complete success. The Bandung Conference strengthened China's ties with Asian and African countries, and China established diplomatic relations with more Asian countries.
(2): Create a new situation in diplomacy
1. Restore its legal seat in the United Nations: After the founding of New China, the Government of the Republic of China became the only legal government in China. However, due to the boycott of the United States, China's legal seat in the United Nations has been illegally occupied by Taiwan's Kuomintang group. With the support of the majority of developing countries, on October 25, 1971, the 26th UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a proposal to restore all legitimate rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations, including its seat as a permanent member of the Security Council. . This is a major victory for China's diplomacy. The U.S. representative was forced to admit that "this was a turning point in the history of the United Nations. For the first time, anti-Western countries defeated the United States when its prestige was shaken."
2. Normalization of Sino-US and Sino-Japanese relations:
After the armistice of the Korean War, Sino-US relations have been in a state of hostility and tension for a long time. China is basically diplomatically isolated from most Western countries. In the early 1970s, due to major changes in the world situation, Sino-US relations began to ease, and China's diplomacy made a major breakthrough and turnaround. In July 1971, Kissinger secretly visited China. Subsequently, China and the United States simultaneously issued announcements that Nixon was about to visit China, which shocked the entire world. In February 1972, President Nixon visited China. China and the United States signed the Sino-US Joint Communiqué, which stated that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory and the one-China principle, and confirmed the ultimate goal of withdrawing all US armed forces and military facilities from Taiwan. Relations between China and the United States have begun to normalize. In 1979, China and the United States officially established diplomatic relations. The improvement of Sino-US relations directly promoted the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan. In 1972, Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka visited China at the invitation of Zhou Enlai and signed a joint statement establishing diplomatic relations. Many Western countries have established diplomatic relations with China. The diplomatic deadlock formed by the United States to contain China since the 1950s has been broken.
3. Diplomatic achievements in the new era:
After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the focus of the work of the whole party and the country has shifted to economic construction, and a peaceful International Environment. Opposing hegemonism and safeguarding world peace have become the goals of China's foreign policy. After China resumed its legal seat in the United Nations, it actively participated in the activities of the United Nations, its specialized agencies and other international organizations, carried out multilateral diplomacy with the United Nations as the center, and made significant contributions to world peace and development. China also actively participates in the diplomatic activities of regional international organizations.
In October 2001, the ninth APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting was successfully held in Shanghai. The participating members reached broad consensus and formed "Shanghai *** Consciousness". The Shanghai Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference has made important contributions to promoting economic cooperation and trade in the Asia-Pacific region. China actively develops good-neighborly and friendly relations with neighboring countries and builds a peaceful surrounding environment.
In 2001, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan signed the "Declaration on the Establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization" in Shanghai. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a new regional cooperation organization that pursues security based on mutual trust and cooperation based on mutual benefit. It plays an important role in strengthening political and economic cooperation between China, Russia and Central Asian countries. China has played a leading role in the SCO.
China joined the WTO in 2001.
